Israelite Community: Widows & Orphans

Exodus 22:22-24

Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. 23If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry; 24And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

Ordained to be protected and cared for by the Most High throughout all the land were the Widows and Orphans.  Along side the Levite Priest, We as a nation of people always cared for this particular group of our community with special care.

Facing capital punishment if not diligently done so, our forefathers and fore mothers contributed monetary and non-monetary supplies to the treasuries for their provisions. Perhaps the most notable widows and orphans mentioned in the book of the Law are:

Tamar the widow (Genesis 38:11) The Widow and vessels of oil (2 Kings 4:1)
Judith wife of  Manasses of the tribe of Simeon (Book of Judith 8:4;9:2)
Women of Israel (Isaiah Chapter 4)
Anna the prophetess (Luke 2:36-37)
Widow of Zarephath who feed the Prophet Elijah(1 Kings 17:9)
and countless others........

From beginning to end, in the book of the Law, our Father unconditionally expresses His great care and mercy for them. One wonderful example in the
2 book of Maccabees conceivably displays HIS solemness! A messenger Heliodorus because of the King's commandment was brutally beaten to the brink of death for attempting to take the temple's treasuries which include the monies to care for them.

An inference of a widow's life experience can be seen in the WORD. For instance, her style of dress (Genesis38:14 Judith 10:3) her financial status
(1 Kings 17:12,Job 24:3) how she raises her children and so forth. It's not a pleasant pill to swallow  knowing we as a nation of people haven't always been trustworthy when caring for our sisters and orphans, but the FATHER has been merciful to the nation of Israel.

As an Israelite, let us  always consider our widows and orphans.

A MOMENT OF EXCELLENCY IN WISDOM

JOSEPH the son of  ISRAEL

GENESIS CHAPTER 42

Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood by him; and he cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren.
2And he wept aloud: and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard.
3And Joseph said unto his brethren, I am Joseph; doth my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him; for they were troubled at his presence.
4And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt.
5Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.
6For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest.
7And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
8So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.
9Haste ye, and go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of all Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not:
10And thou shalt dwell in the land of Goshen, and thou shalt be near unto me, thou, and thy children, and thy children's children, and thy flocks, and thy herds, and all that thou hast:
11And there will I nourish thee; for yet there are five years of famine; lest thou, and thy household, and all that thou hast, come to poverty.
12And, behold, your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is my mouth that speaketh unto you.
13And ye shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of all that ye have seen; and ye shall haste and bring down my father hither.
14And he fell upon his brother Benjamin's neck, and wept; and Benjamin wept upon his neck.
15Moreover he kissed all his brethren, and wept upon them: and after that his brethren talked with him.
16And the fame thereof was heard in Pharaoh's house, saying, Joseph's brethren are come: and it pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants.
17And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Say unto thy brethren, This do ye; lade your beasts, and go, get you unto the land of Canaan;
18And take your father and your households, and come unto me: and I will give you the good of the land of Egypt, and ye shall eat the fat of the land.
19Now thou art commanded, this do ye; take you wagons out of the land of Egypt for your little ones, and for your wives, and bring your father, and come.
20Also regard not your stuff; for the good of all the land of Egypt is yours.
21And the children of Israel did so: and Joseph gave them wagons, according to the commandment of Pharaoh, and gave them provision for the way.
22To all of them he gave each man changes of raiment; but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver, and five changes of raiment.
23And to his father he sent after this manner; ten asses laden with the good things of Egypt, and ten she asses laden with corn and bread and meat for his father by the way.
24So he sent his brethren away, and they departed: and he said unto them, See that ye fall not out by the way.
25And they went up out of Egypt, and came into the land of Canaan unto Jacob their father,
26And told him, saying, Joseph is yet alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt. And Jacob's heart fainted, for he believed them not.
27And they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said unto them: and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived:
28And Israel said, It is enough; Joseph my son is yet alive: I will go and see him before I die.

"Children, Family, Friends and Truth"

When you come into the knowledge of the commandments of YHWH it may be a bit trying to deal with children. This can definitely be bitter sweet as you must understand to NEVER by no means disobey THE FATHER for the benefit of your children. Sometimes you deal with your children saying things like "you're not like you used to be" or family members saying "you've changed" and that you are not as good of a parent anymore because you prefer to keep the laws instead of pagan holidays, Sabbath outings and such. There are some important things to remember when dealing with children in the truth.
  • Try your best to be around other repentant Israelites as much as possible. Do not become anti-social because this will do more harm than good in the end. "Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;" ~Romans 12:10
  • Remember the scriptures have the answers. You don't have to guess at anything THE FATHER has instructed us on how to raise our children and there is no appeal to his commandments.Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." ~Proverbs 22:6
  • Do not allow your children to interact with worldly kids too much , with the exception of school and day care, the interaction should be minimal and supervised reason being is because our children are easily seduced by worldly things.~ "The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them." ~Proverbs 12:26
  • You can not allow your children around family or friends that do not respect your keeping of the Laws of GOD meaning, if your children has grandparents that want to visit or keep your kids. that is fine as long as the grandparents aren't feeding your children unlawful foods, allowing them or encouraging them to dress unlawfully, speak unlawfully or anything that is against biblical instruction. If your family truly loves you and your children they will understand that all you want to do is keep the commandments and they will not want to argue with that. Many of our family and friends hate TMH and his word (Christ) and that is where a lot of the hostility that you have to experience stems from. However, if push comes to shove just don't deal with them at all because it's not worth your or your child's salvation. "And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them." ~Ephesians 5:11  " Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye." ~Acts 7:51
If you are a single mother or father in this truth or you have an unbelieving spouse that resided with you or wished to have partial custody of the child things can get even more difficult. We must understand that we are in captivity and the laws will allow for the unbelieving to have full or partial custody of children. In these situations you just have to deal with what comes as it comes make sure that whenever the child is with you they are keeping the commandments. Teach your child the seriousness of keeping the commandments and the consequences if they do not. This will teach your kids how to think on the Word of the LORD and not easily taken with family and peer pressure. "In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." ~Proverbs 3:6

If you are finding it hard to adjust just give yourself some time and stay consistent and
focused, everything doesn't come as easily or as quickly as we would like endurance and
austere is key to attempting to raise children in the truth. Always remember endurance and
austereness is necessary when dealing with children, family, and friends during your walk in
the knowledge of the Law of YHWH.
Don not be deceived and think you can just hang out with the unbeliever and everything is
all good, as the scripture says above in Proverbs 12:26 the way of the wicked seduceth the
righteous so don't get caught up thinking you can convert someone to the laws. THE
MOST HIGH GOD and his law is what convert us (Psalms 19:7).

I pray this helps you in some way to deal with your family, friends and children in the
truth below I have included a few more scriptures as a reference in case you ever just need
to find something pertaining to this subject.  Shalom

  • “Separate thyself from thine enemies, and take heed of thy friends.”  Sirach 6:13
  • “Desire not a multitude of unprofitable children, neither delight in ungodly sons.” Sirach 16:1
  • "He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me." ~ Matthew 10:37
  • And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. ~Matthew 10:26

Unsung Sisters of Action: Hebrew midwives: Shiphrah & Puah

Exodus 1:17
“But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.”

The children of Israel served the Egyptians with rigor, but the more they served the more the Hebrew women gave birth. Out of fear Pharaoh (assuming the Hebrews would multiply, and when there falleth out any war, the Hebrews would join also unto their enemies, and fight against them) spoke with the Hebrew midwives “When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.

Shiphrah and Puah were in dire straits! With a heinous decree laid to their power these sisters utterly refused to commit such acts, but instead choose to fear the LORD. These sisters continued to keep the male Israelites alive and when confronted again by pharaoh concerning this matter they said it plainly: “Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.”

Regardless of the consequence Shiphrah and Puah trusted in YHWH, in return the MOST HIGH dealt well with the midwives and made them houses. The word “midwife” is a term which reflects the role of nurturing and supporting a woman during her pregnancy and childbirth.  Midwife has two very similar meanings: ‘a woman who is with the mother’ and ‘bring into being’.

Unsung Sisters of Action: House of Noah

Genesis 7:7

“And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.”

The women of the household of Noah not often mentioned had to have been incredible woman of their time.
Let’s imagine for a moment the character, morals, and values of these women? What questions come to your mind??

The wife of Noah: This woman’s husband found grace in the sight of the Lord. We can conclude she was patient, understanding, and encouraging. Did she not go the way her husband wanted her to go? Was she not patiently loving throughout the years her husband toiled to bring forth an ark not only to save mankind but all species alike? She nurtured and raised three fine young men who took heed to God’s warning and honored their Father and Mother according to the Laws.

The Wife of Shem: After the flood this woman gave birth to the generational seed that produced CHRIST our Lord and savior. Was she aware of the role she would play in the lineage of the Savior? Maybe she warned her family and friends of the wrath to come? Did she not heed the warning of the wrath to come upon the earth?

The wife of Ham: After the flood this woman gave birth to the generational seed of the dark races not the race who’s considered the Negros. Was she aware her and her sister-in-law’s would be the ones who would help in replenishing the earth? Did she not heed the warning of the wrath to come upon the earth? How did she feel when her son Canaan was cursed because of the actions of his father?

The wife of Japheth: After the flood this woman gave birth to the generational seed that would dwell among her brother-in-law’s Shem tents and received the children of Canaan as servants. Did she not heed the warning of the wrath to come upon the earth? Was she not respectful to her husband by showing charity to her in-laws?

O’ how strong a bond, sisterhood and family unit these four women built! The scriptures says “Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands” –Proverbs 14:1. Can you imagine the mockery, filthy conversation and sneers these women faced in general from worldly persons on behalf of their husbands and vice versa? Maybe they had to hear ridicule from parents and siblings? No matter the tribulation they endured. It’s obvious the house of Noah was a strong unit with women who consider the words of YHWH, who gave reverence to their own husbands’ guidance and in doing so were four of the eight persons saved from the flood upon the world of the ungodly.

Uusung Sisters of Action: Feast of Dedication Family Edition

ALL PRAISES TO THE MOST HIGH GOD! We pray your Feast of Dedication was a memorable one this year, As always we reflect on the History of our forefathers Mattathias and his five sons commonly known as Maccabees during the Greek Captivity of the Israelites. Let’s shine the spotlight on all Israelites that suffered and endured much torture, misery, persecution and turmoil for the Keeping of the Commandments!

Action

Mattathias spoke for all Israel when “He said, Woe is me! wherefore was I born to see this misery of my people, and of the holy city, and to dwell there, when it was delivered into the hand of the enemy, and the sanctuary into the hand of strangers?” – 1 Maccabees 2:7.
It’s safe to say this cry has rippled throughout the countless generations of the children of Israel even to this day! We must never forget the upbraiding of communities, villages, the ransacking of towns and destruction of cities all of these battles he and his sons faced for the welfare of their people which was won by the mighty HAND OF YHWH to the cleansing and dedication of the Temple.

Remember the women who on the eighth day circumcised their sons as commanded keeping our customs knowing it may have resulted in death and for some it did even for the infants.

Remember the Brethren who refused to fight on the Sabbath to what ended in destruction to entire households.

Remember the Mother and her seven sons who were compelled to taste pork but utterly refused unto death.

Remember the valiant Brother Eleazar also, surnamed Savaran, perceiving that one of the beasts, armed with royal harness, was higher than all the rest, and supposing that the king was upon him Put himself in jeopardy, to the end he might deliver his people, and get him a perpetual name Wherefore he ran upon him courageously through the midst of the battle, slaying on the right hand and on the left, so that they were divided from him on both sides. Which done, he crept under the elephant, and thrust him under, and slew him: whereupon the elephant fell down upon him, and there he died. -1 Maccabees 6:43-46

We leave you with this:

 1 Maccabees 2:51

“Call to remembrance what acts our fathers did in their time; so shall ye receive great honour and an everlasting name.”

Unsung Sisters of Action: Χ“ְּΧ‘Χ•ֹΧ¨ָΧ” Debora [Tobit's Grandmother]

Tobit 1:8

"And the third I gave unto them to whom it was meet, as Debora my father's mother had commanded me, because I was left an orphan by my father."

Facts:
Name Origin:The bee from it's systematic instincts; Bee
Tribe: Naphtali
Husband: Ananiel son of Aduel
Characteristics: Strong, Wise, Humble, meek, loving, obedient, virtuous,

Action:
Sister Debora is the embodiment of the woman describe in Proverbs 31!
Tobit’s life illustrates the teachings of the laws, statues and commandments afforded him by his grandmother.

Facing rumors and gossip all the while suffering the heartache of losing her son Tobiel to idoltary, Debora continue to put forth good works. Have you ever stopped to consider the mental anguish a father and mother may feel when their son or daughter goes astray from their upbringing? Their son Tobiel fell from the house of Jerusalem revolted and sacrificed unto the heifer Baal leaving his son orphan. The scriptures doesn't mention Tobit's mother but we must not assume the worst.

In holy behavior Debora accepted her son’s parental duties providing Tobit with a loving and caring home with all things considered. Debora's actions in doing so is a great example of charity taught to us by YHWH. As instructed by the Lord in Deuteronomy 6:5-7 Debora raised Tobit in all the ways of the Heavenly Father.

Once Tobit became a man he kept the ways of the Most High as commanded by his grandmother in giving many almsdeeds and remembering the laws with all his heart. Tobit became a vigilant man who guided his own house well. Married to a sister of his own kindred named Anna they had a son named Tobias and continued the system of teaching him in the ways of YHWH!

UNSUNG SISTERS OF ACTION: WISE WOMAN OF A`BEL

2 Samuel 20:16
Then cried a wise woman out of the city, Hear, hear; say, I pray you, unto Joab, Come near hither, that I may speak with thee.

Characteristics:
Wise, Lively, Patient, Faithful, Brave, Emphatic.

Action:
During a time of civil unrest in the household of King David another foe rears its ugly head to contend for the sovereign rulership over the children of Israel. Sheba the son of Bichri a Benjaminte decides to rebel against the crown by declaring “We have no part in David neither have we in the son of Jesse every man to his tents, O’ Israel!” Sheba rallied from Jordan to Abel even Bethmaachah were he was pursued.

A wise women comes to the city’s aid and the King! She was resourceful by keeping the sayings of old. Thinking on these sayings of old time: “They shall surely ask counsel at Abel and so they ended the matter.” she patiently waited for prophesy of which is obviously her native land to unfold.

Without hesitation she yells across the wall insisting on speaking with Joab she inquires of him “I am one of them that are peaceably and faithful in Israel: thou seekest to destroy a city and a mother in Israel: Why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of the Lord?" Joab informs her why the militia was there also reassuring her that no harm would come to the city or it’s people unless they give up the rebel Sheba!

In her wisdom she consulted with her people about the grave matter at hand either surrender the traitor of the crown or be toppled!  The conclusion of the matter was no doubt agreed upon Sheba was B-E-H-E-A-D-E-D and it was thrown over the wall!
