Uusung Sisters of Action: Feast of Dedication Family Edition

ALL PRAISES TO THE MOST HIGH GOD! We pray your Feast of Dedication was a memorable one this year, As always we reflect on the History of our forefathers Mattathias and his five sons commonly known as Maccabees during the Greek Captivity of the Israelites. Let’s shine the spotlight on all Israelites that suffered and endured much torture, misery, persecution and turmoil for the Keeping of the Commandments!

Action

Mattathias spoke for all Israel when “He said, Woe is me! wherefore was I born to see this misery of my people, and of the holy city, and to dwell there, when it was delivered into the hand of the enemy, and the sanctuary into the hand of strangers?” – 1 Maccabees 2:7.
It’s safe to say this cry has rippled throughout the countless generations of the children of Israel even to this day! We must never forget the upbraiding of communities, villages, the ransacking of towns and destruction of cities all of these battles he and his sons faced for the welfare of their people which was won by the mighty HAND OF YHWH to the cleansing and dedication of the Temple.

Remember the women who on the eighth day circumcised their sons as commanded keeping our customs knowing it may have resulted in death and for some it did even for the infants.

Remember the Brethren who refused to fight on the Sabbath to what ended in destruction to entire households.

Remember the Mother and her seven sons who were compelled to taste pork but utterly refused unto death.

Remember the valiant Brother Eleazar also, surnamed Savaran, perceiving that one of the beasts, armed with royal harness, was higher than all the rest, and supposing that the king was upon him Put himself in jeopardy, to the end he might deliver his people, and get him a perpetual name Wherefore he ran upon him courageously through the midst of the battle, slaying on the right hand and on the left, so that they were divided from him on both sides. Which done, he crept under the elephant, and thrust him under, and slew him: whereupon the elephant fell down upon him, and there he died. -1 Maccabees 6:43-46

We leave you with this:

 1 Maccabees 2:51

“Call to remembrance what acts our fathers did in their time; so shall ye receive great honour and an everlasting name.”

Unsung Sisters of Action: דְּבוֹרָה Debora [Tobit's Grandmother]

Tobit 1:8

"And the third I gave unto them to whom it was meet, as Debora my father's mother had commanded me, because I was left an orphan by my father."

Facts:
Name Origin:The bee from it's systematic instincts; Bee
Tribe: Naphtali
Husband: Ananiel son of Aduel
Characteristics: Strong, Wise, Humble, meek, loving, obedient, virtuous,

Action:
Sister Debora is the embodiment of the woman describe in Proverbs 31!
Tobit’s life illustrates the teachings of the laws, statues and commandments afforded him by his grandmother.

Facing rumors and gossip all the while suffering the heartache of losing her son Tobiel to idoltary, Debora continue to put forth good works. Have you ever stopped to consider the mental anguish a father and mother may feel when their son or daughter goes astray from their upbringing? Their son Tobiel fell from the house of Jerusalem revolted and sacrificed unto the heifer Baal leaving his son orphan. The scriptures doesn't mention Tobit's mother but we must not assume the worst.

In holy behavior Debora accepted her son’s parental duties providing Tobit with a loving and caring home with all things considered. Debora's actions in doing so is a great example of charity taught to us by YHWH. As instructed by the Lord in Deuteronomy 6:5-7 Debora raised Tobit in all the ways of the Heavenly Father.

Once Tobit became a man he kept the ways of the Most High as commanded by his grandmother in giving many almsdeeds and remembering the laws with all his heart. Tobit became a vigilant man who guided his own house well. Married to a sister of his own kindred named Anna they had a son named Tobias and continued the system of teaching him in the ways of YHWH!

Unsung Sisters of Action: Widow of a Prophet

2 Kings 4:1

Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.

Actions:
One can only fathom the grief, frustrations and concerns this sister endured being a newly widowed mother of two sons. During what possibly could’ve been the most difficult time in her life she encountered some financial troubles. This obligation left by her husband was burdensome for the creditor demanded “Pay up or give me your boys as bondmen!”  After hearing those threatening words this sister sought the only Man she knew that could make the impossible possible the Most High! Once she located the man of the Most High: Elisha she explained her concerns in detail to the prophet.

Without hesitation he asked “How may I help you?” “Tell me, what is it that you have of value”? She expressed right away “I have only a pot of oil!” In full certainty Elisha urged her “Go, borrow bowls, vases, jars, pots and pans borrow whatever you can from all your neighbors, once you arrive at home close the doors behind you and your sons because when you begin to pour; the oil will overflow!” So she left him in hast borrowing from everyone her neighbor and closed the doors on the three of them. Nothing short of amazement is how I see her and her two sons witnessing the oil flowing like a never ending fountain into the countless vessels. As she cried to her sons “Bring me another pot!” Her sons replying “There isn’t anymore!” and at that moment the oil ceased.

Overwhelmed with the sight of all the once empty containers now filled to the rim with oil she hurried to Elisha to tell him of her outcome. Elisha further instructs her to sell the oil and pay the debt. Wow! This widow along with her obedient sons exercised their faith in Elohim and didn’t hesitate to put in the works to reap the benefits of repaying the debt of her late husband whom was known to fear YHWH. I leave you with this to ponder on; Elisha also informed her and her children to live off the remainder of the profits! When YHWH steps in to protect and give to those that fear him truly he provides abundantly!

UNSUNG SISTERS OF ACTION: WISE WOMAN OF A`BEL

2 Samuel 20:16
Then cried a wise woman out of the city, Hear, hear; say, I pray you, unto Joab, Come near hither, that I may speak with thee.

Characteristics:
Wise, Lively, Patient, Faithful, Brave, Emphatic.

Action:
During a time of civil unrest in the household of King David another foe rears its ugly head to contend for the sovereign rulership over the children of Israel. Sheba the son of Bichri a Benjaminte decides to rebel against the crown by declaring “We have no part in David neither have we in the son of Jesse every man to his tents, O’ Israel!” Sheba rallied from Jordan to Abel even Bethmaachah were he was pursued.

A wise women comes to the city’s aid and the King! She was resourceful by keeping the sayings of old. Thinking on these sayings of old time: “They shall surely ask counsel at Abel and so they ended the matter.” she patiently waited for prophesy of which is obviously her native land to unfold.

Without hesitation she yells across the wall insisting on speaking with Joab she inquires of him “I am one of them that are peaceably and faithful in Israel: thou seekest to destroy a city and a mother in Israel: Why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of the Lord?" Joab informs her why the militia was there also reassuring her that no harm would come to the city or it’s people unless they give up the rebel Sheba!

In her wisdom she consulted with her people about the grave matter at hand either surrender the traitor of the crown or be toppled!  The conclusion of the matter was no doubt agreed upon Sheba was B-E-H-E-A-D-E-D and it was thrown over the wall!

Unsung Sisters of Action: Huldah Hebrew: חֻלְדָּה The prophetess

2 Kings 22:14

So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college;) and they communed with her.

Facts:
Husband: Shallum son of Tikvah, son of Hashas
Tribe:unknown
Name origin: Weasel
Characteristics: Intelligent, Swift, Integrity, Poised, Alert, Graceful,

Action:
Huldah the prophetess dwelt at the college in Jerusalem which is called in our native language Mishneh, or the second gate.  Like her predecessor Deborah, Huldah’s counsel was sought in the matter of the book of the law when a long lost scroll was stumbled upon by Hilkiah the High priest.

The King of Judah at this time was Josiah and Hilkiah thought it pertinent for the king to receive the parchment concerning the people Israel and what would become of them. After hearing the writings of the document King Josiah rent his clothing and so sent Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asahiah, to Huldah to enquire of YWHW for the people and all Judah.

Without hesitation Huldah ready to answer spoke the words of Yah declaring the evil that the Most High was going to bring upon the inhabitants because they forsook HIM, burned incense to other gods, and provoke him to anger with all the works of their hands.  She was unafraid in delivering the oracles from the father almost as if she and the Father conversed before the messengers arrived. Even in the sincerity of truth she spoke of the Lord’s mercy towards the man Josiah king of Judah because his heart was tender, and humbled when he heard the words of the Lord.

Huldah’s name has a peculiar meaning which is weasel. Why, you may ask???
Contrary to popular belief the weasel is portrayed in a negative light, but its traits are far from anything detrimental! I’ve researched the attributes of the weasel and Huldah fits them perfectly! In relation to human traits this animal has the skill and talent to escape tricky scenarios, ability to see far beyond ordinary beings, powerful intelligence, and in ancient times it was believed the weasel had seven hearts which is considered to have a perfect soul full of integrity. Silent and graceful, weasels go unseen and unheard about their territories quietly observing what is happening and then discern what is important and what’s not.

Unsung Sisters of Action: Little Maid

2 Kings 5:3
And she said unto her mistress "Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy."

ACTIONS:

Naaman the Leper was sent to Elisha the prophet in Samaria by word of a little maid of Israel. The nameless little maid played a pivotal role in this story by declaring the power of her God thus the Naaman's search for healing began.

The little maid was carried captive by a Syrian company whom Naaman was captain over to await his wife. She daringly spoke to her mistress about her husband’s skin condition asserting he could be recovered if he would make his condition known to her lord

What FAITH, what BRAVERY for a young Israelite girl. It’s obvious she understood the Syrian’s gods were nothing and the one true God resided in Israel. She spoke these sayings with full confidence in the power she knew was bestowed upon Elisha the prophet.

The book of the law doesn’t indication her age, name, or tribe, but more importantly if only an instance it reminds us of her faith in the power of our YWHW even in her captivity.

Unsung Sisters of Action: Judith's Maid

Judith 13:9

And tumbled his body down from the bed, and pulled down the canopy from the pillars; and anon after she went forth, and gave Holofernes his head to her maid;

Judith's maid was a remarkable women. Along side Judith they accomplished great things for their people. As the book of Judith would have you know she was cooperative, trustworthy, obedient, fearless but more importantly a friend.

This duo was fervent for the Most High!  They approached the first watch of the Assyrians with full confidence in the mission to take Holofernes's HEAD!

Can you fathom that?? She ministered to her mistress flawlessly showing no signs of stage freight as she accommodated her behind enemy lines. She took pride in ministering to Judith never with contempt but with grace.

Upon their return with victory in tow, They were given a garland of olive and all Israel celebrated with Judith leading the way.

The scriptures leave her nameless true indeed, nevertheless the Word does give us comfort concerning the brave maid, Judith granted her freedom as written in the Law.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup all-purpose flour or cornstarch

2 eggs, lightly beaten

2 cups fresh bread crumbs

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon Salad Supreme, recipe follows

1 small eggplant, cut into 1/4-inch thick slices

Olive oil for deep frying

Marinara sauce (optional)
